Do I have to give my real name to use Cypra DMCA?
Yes, at signup. We need it because ownership records and takedown notices are legal documents, and the law requires them to name the rights holder or their authorized agent. Where it goes after that is the part worth knowing: your legal name is encrypted and held for proof of ownership only. It never appears on the public copy of your certificate, and the notices we file go out under your stage name. The legal copy of a certificate is the one document that carries it, and it stays in your account until you decide to use it.
Who can see my legal name?
Nobody sees it by default. It isn't shown on the public certificate, isn't on the notices we send, and isn't part of the public record of a takedown. It appears only on the legal copy of a certificate, which nothing sends automatically. Your bank statement stays discreet too, showing as "CYPRA SERVICES" with no mention of what the service does.
Do I need to request a certificate?
No. One is created for every file you upload, at the moment you upload it. You can download either version from your dashboard whenever you need it.
Can I get a certificate for something I posted years ago?
Yes, and it's worth doing. The record shows the date the file entered Cypra DMCA rather than the date you made it, so the sooner a file is in the system the stronger the record. Older work is still worth protecting, because a dated record from today beats no record at all.
